👋
The TLDR
- Who I Am: I'm Steve Schlafman, an executive coach who helps ambitious people in midlife—founders, investors, and creatives—navigate life / career transition and burnout. My practice blends mindfulness, somatic work, parts work, with wisdom from my own 25+ year career, creating space for clients to slow down, reconnect, and move forward in alignment.
- Role: Part-time assistant for a thriving executive coaching practice. You'll help handle client support, scheduling, operations, and light project work.
- Location: Primarily remote. Hudson Valley–based candidates preferred; occasional in-person collaboration possible at my office in Marbletown, NY.
- Hours: ~10 hours per week to start, flexible within business hours (9am–5pm ET). Potential to grow to 15-20 hours as the practice expands and you take on more responsibility.
- Compensation: $30–35/hour (negotiable based on experience).
- Growth: Potential to expand into more hours, larger responsibilities, or even an operations manager role as the practice grows.
- Culture: Human-centered, values-driven work. This role supports deep, meaningful coaching with founders, creators, and investors—work that prioritizes presence over speed, and relationships over transactions.

About the Role
This isn't your typical "follow the checklist" assistant role. I need someone who's comfortable taking initiative, can solve problems independently, and handles client interactions with warmth and professionalism.
You'll be helping create space for me to focus on what I do best—deep coaching work with people navigating major life and career transitions. In return, you'll have real autonomy, variety in your work, and the satisfaction of supporting something that genuinely changes people's lives.
The scope is deliberately broad because I want to find someone whose skills I can grow into. Some weeks it'll be mostly routine admin; other weeks you might be coordinating a retreat, helping think through a new program launch, or supporting a workshop. If you're someone who enjoys variety and doesn't want to do the exact same thing every week, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Client Support (the most important stuff):
- Scheduling sessions and juggling calendar conflicts like a pro
- Being the friendly, responsive voice clients hear from (24-hour response time during weekdays)
- Handling invoicing and gentle payment follow-ups
- Keeping track of important client dates and making sure nothing falls through the cracks
Operations (keeping the machine running):
- Coordinating travel when I head to the city or for speaking engagements
- Managing client gifts and relationship touches (think holiday cards, congratulatory notes)
- Supporting retreat logistics (I've got one coming up in January)
- All the little operational things that keep a coaching practice humming
Strategic Projects (when bandwidth allows):
- Research and coordination for a potential podcast reboot
- Support for online program development
- Whatever interesting projects come up as the business evolves
